Welcome to the Jesus College MCR
The Middle Common Room (MCR) is the community of graduate students at Jesus College, Oxford. We have a membership of over 300 graduate students representing a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds. Our members study a wide variety of disciplines including English, Law, Economics, Education, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Zoology, History, Philosophy and Politics, to name but a few.

About the Jesus Middle Common Room (MCR)
The Middle Common Room (MCR) refers broadly to both a community and a set of physical spaces within Jesus College.
As a community, we are a collection of Doctoral, Master's, Part II, Post-Doctoral, and mature Undergraduate students from across all disciplines offered at Jesus College.
As a physical space, we offer a variety of locations, facilities, and services to have fun, socialise, and study. You can read more about our offering in the section below.
Our
Facilities
Our MCR has two common rooms for the use of our members. The ‘Upper MCR’ and ‘The Bunker’ are both located on the Main College Site and can be found on Staircase XI off Second Quad.
The Upper MCR has Chesterfield sofas and wingback chairs on which to relax or study with a cup of tea or coffee prepared in our kitchenette, coffee machine, or with our free supply of fruits, tea, and biscuits.
The Bunker contains a television, sound system, games console, a collection of books, films, video games and board games, and cosy couches and bean bags on which to enjoy them. If you're feeling more active, there is also a pool table, foosball table, and supplies for darts, paddle boarding, and croquet.
We have a dedicated Graduate Study Room on the top floor of the brand new Cheng Yu Tung Building with views over the roof of College towards Radcliffe Square.
Our welfare provision includes dedicated Welfare Reps whom you can approach with any concerns as well as a weekly welfare Coffee and Cake and bookable Welfare Lockers on the main site.

MCR Committee
The MCR Committee is an elected group of volunteers who cater to the needs of our members academically and socially. The MCR also liaises with the Jesus College Governing Body, other College Committees, the Senior Common Room (SCR), the Junior Common Room (JCR), and the MCRs at other Colleges on a variety of matters that concern our members.
Honorary Membership

The MCR offers Honorary Membership to individuals who meet any of the following criteria:

Members of the Senior Common Room (SCR) of the College.

Visiting Graduate students who are affiliated with the College (such as through supervision) and/or staying in Jesus College accommodation and recommended for Honorary Membership by the Academic Director.

Former Full Members of the MCR.

Holders of a degree from the University of Oxford who were members of this College whilst reading for that degree.

Those who, by virtue of their employment by or other close connection with the MCR, need regular access to the Common Room and other MCR facilities, and upon whom the MCR decides, by a majority vote at a General Meeting, to confer Honorary Membership.

Spouses and partners of MCR members who reside with said member in the Oxford area.
